Dear EHDN Member,
It is with very heavy hearts that we share the sad news that Tim McLean, our wonderful colleague and dear friend, passed away on 31 March 2025.
Since 2009, Tim was Clinical Operations Manager at EHDN, a core responsibility of which included overseeing operational support for EHDN-endorsed clinical trials and observational registries. He was also an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee and Co-leader of the Enroll-HD Research Platform.
The nature of this position, along with Tim’s open and friendly nature, meant that he interacted with many people across EHDN, Enroll-HD, and beyond. He often said that his time within the HD community was the highlight of his career and that he felt privileged to be able to contribute and work with so many dedicated and passionate people. Without a doubt, the privilege was ours. Tim excelled at his job and could be relied on to quickly sense what was needed in any particular situation, and to approach challenges calmly and methodically. He was genuinely interested in other people and always willing to listen. He was also the owner of a keen sense of humour, even in the face of day-to-day frustrations.
When illness struck, Tim showed extraordinary stoicism and self-possession – he didn’t show signs of anger or look for sympathy but wanted to continue working and to keep things as normal as possible, and he lived the last few months as fully as he could.
Tim was a wise and kind human being, and a gentleman in the very best sense of the word. As the news of his passing has spread, we have received condolences and expressions of sadness from colleagues, ex-colleagues, and friends from all over the world in an unwavering testament to his impact. We will all miss him tremendously.
Kind regards,
EHDN team
