Aims
The aim of the Preclinical Animal Models Task Force is to bring together experts in the use of rodent models of HD, to explore key challenges in the field. We are generating a publication, for peer-review, in which we consider the extent to which different models effectively reflect the human condition, from molecular, cellular and behavioural perspectives, and we explore how to best use these models to develop hypotheses or test novel therapeutics.
To achieve this, we have established a core group, which includes Dr Sandrine Humbert (ICM, Paris) and Dr Mariah Lelos (Cardiff University). Prof Frederic Saudou and Prof Anne Rosser, as well as early careers researchers from all of these laboratories, also contribute to this core committee. More broadly, the Task Force has already identified, and engaged with, other experts in the field internationally (e.g. Germany, USA) to garner interest in the contributing to the project as it develops. We received positive feedback from international colleagues.
Our approach is to develop a draft manuscript within the core Task Force, which covers all the key information we seek to convey to the HD community. We have initiated this work and the drafting is currently ongoing. Once complete, we will re-engage with our colleagues internationally to offer opportunities to contribute additional sections or to mature the narrative.
We aim to submit a final manuscript for publication in 2026.
